Dr. Jan Schwartz received a B.S. in Education from Valparaiso University, and her master’s and doctoral degrees from the Department of Psychology in Education at the University of Pittsburgh where she achieved the distinction of University Scholar. She completed a clinical research practicum at the Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinic, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, under Alan E, Kazdin, Ph.D.
Jan is President of Forensic Fraud Research, Inc. a non-profit, not-for-fee investigative firm that specializes in white-collar organized crime, white-collar organized activity and the white-collar organized community. Working in full-time in this capacity since 1992, Forensic Fraud Research formally incorporated in 2000, and became affiliated with the National White Collar Crime Center in 2003. In 2005, Dr. Schwartz granted permission for a presentation, “Psychology of White-Collar Criminals,” to be videotaped by the U.S. Department of Justice. In granting consent she transferred full ownership of copyright and use of the information and materials for national or international purposes to the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Legal Education, United States Attorney’s Legal Education Office. The presentation was a compilation of the data yielded from a 150+ subject research study interviewing victims, alleged perpetrators and their wives, witnesses and bystanders.
Dr. Schwartz has compiled data for and provided information to the FBI HIDTA Money-laundering Division in Manhattan, the FBI in Washington, DC, the Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and 19 other state departments in addition to the United States Attorney’s Office Northern District of Ohio.
The opportunity to write The Psychological Profile of a Spy (2006) for the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security and the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute provided her with the opportunity to study FBI agents working front line with terrorists. In learning that they viewed terrorists as a type of white-collar criminal, she realized the need to continue her training. In the fall of 2007 she became Certified in Levels IV and V following the requirements established by the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security. In December of 2007, she was invited to join the Executive Advisory Board for the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security.
In 2007-2008 she facilitated a pilot program for the nation on the local level. Initially referred to as “The five-Step Homeland Security Initiative,” the project received approval for federal funding for Step Two. The findings of the study were presented at the ABCHS National Conference in 2008.
Dr. Schwartz continues to speak professionally and contributes articles to various publications. Jan has served as Chair and Chair Emeritus of the American Board of Forensic examiners. In addition to her continued service on the American Board of Forensic Examiners, the Executive Advisory Board of the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security and the American Board of Intelligence Analysts®, she is on the National Board of Directors of the National First Ladies’ Library and the MidWest Board of the American Board of Directors of the American Association of Political Consultants.
